Drivers are facing up to seven mile delays on the M11

Drivers have been caught in traffic chaos on the M11 in Essex this morning after two crashes near London Stansted Airport.

Part of the M11 was initially blocked in both directions after two collisions between junction J8 (Stansted Airport) and J9.

All lanes have now reopened between the two junctions but National Highways has warned that “very long delays remain in the area in both directions”.

Motorists heading to the airport and beyond were warned of a five-mile queue southbound and seven miles of congestion northbound.

Northbound traffic was completely stopped at one point as vehicles involved in the collision were moved onto the hard shoulder.

It comes as millions of people hit the roads today and over the weekend ahead of the summer holidays.
