A 78-year-old Brit has been found dead in a swimming pool in Crete.
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence, including a 21-year-old lifeguard who was supposed to be on duty at the time.
The pensioner was taking a dip in her hotel pool in Hersonissos yesterday afternoon when she reportedly fell ill.
She was pulled out of the water to be given first aid before emergency services arrived, local news reports.
But despite medics’ best efforts the woman was pronounced dead in hospital.
Two hotel bosses – aged 51 and 41 – have also been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence.
All three suspects have been released on bail.
It comes just days after a 74-year-old Brit was found dead on a sun lounger by beach goers in Crete.
The tourist was found unconscious after he reportedly fell ill following a swim at a popular beach.
Officials quickly rushed to Stalis Beach at around 12pm on Sunday, July 20 after being alerted of the elderly man’s state.
Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care (EKAB) said they tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead shortly after they arrived.
The Brit is said to have gone swimming in the sea before returning to the beach to have a sit down on a sun lounger.
He was then hit with a “strong feeling” of sickness before slowly losing consciousness, Cretapost reports.
