Leone, 26, was found dead in her New Mexico apartment on March 1.
The U.S. Sun previously reported that local Albuquerque police were looking into her death as suspicious.
Her talent agency, 101 Modeling, claimed on social media that the death is now being investigated as a home invasion homicide.
“To be clear, Sophia death is being investigated as a robbery and homicide,” the agency wrote in a post to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“We’re going to take time off social media because this is difficult. But we do appreciate seeing the stories from people who knew her. We all agree she was a sweetheart, kind, and gentle. We all love her.”
Leone’s step father, Mike Romero, confirmed her death in a GoFundMe page seeking to raise money for funeral expenses and other costs that may arise.
In his post on the page, Romero revealed that not only is Leone’s family grieving her sudden passing, they are also “seeking justice for Sophia.”
“I am reaching out to all of Sophia’s supporters and the community during this incredibly difficult time,” Romero wrote.
“Sophia without question deserves the absolute best memorial and you can help us. Any donation no matter the amount will go straight towards the costs associated with the investigation, Funeral Expense’s, and any other costs that may arise as the family works through this heartbreak.”
Little details surrounding Leone’s death have been released.
The Albuquerque City Clerk’s office did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
Tributes have since poured in across social media, with many friends and fans saying they are “heartbroken” over her sudden passing.
“I’m speechless and heartbroken. I can’t believe what I’m seeing,” said porn star Gina Valentine.
Fellow adult film star Valeri Casteele added that she would miss Leone dearly, praising her kindness.
Just months before her death, Leone shared a heartbreaking and poignant post on Instagram for her fans.
In the post, Leone is seen smiling for the camera while wearing denim jeans, white sneakers and holding a lilac bag on her shoulder.
“Go outside and just appreciate life a little extra today,” she wrote in the caption.
Leone, born in Miami, Florida, first entered the adult film industry in 2014.
Before her death, she starred in more than 80 films, according to IMDb.
