A whole host of huge rides are up for grabs, including Delacroix in the mouthwatering decider against Ombudsman in this month’s Irish Champion Stakes.
O’Brien has a number of jockeys on rotation at Ballydoyle, with Derby hero Wayne Lordan the usual No2.
However, O’Brien has moved quickly to bolster his ranks for the remainder of the campaign by signing up Christophe Soumillon.
Super Sou is a big-time rider with loads of Group 1s to his name.
But it wasn’t all that long ago he was facing calls to be permanently banned after elbowing Rossa Ryan out of the saddle.
Footage of Soumillin intentionally knocking Ryan to the ground at Saint-Cloud in 2022 went viral online.
He was slapped with a 60-day ban, lost his retainer with the Aga Khan and left fellow jockey Kieran Shoemark in ‘complete disbelief’ with his actions.
Super Sou hasn’t courted controversy in the years since, though, and looks as good as ever in the saddle aged 44.
One big O’Brien ride he won’t be on, however, is in the St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday week.
Sun Racing told you Charlie Johnston has already signed up Soumillon to ride his Derby runner-up Lazy Griff in the final Classic of the season.
