RUBEN AMORIM has been given the green light to make signings this month — with Victor Osimhen on his Manchester United hitlist.

The troubled Red Devils boss fears  a relegation battle and is desperate for more firepower.

Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres would be a dream recruit – at some stageEPA

Amorim previously suggested United would have a quiet January window as they try to avoid breaching the Prem’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

But he said: “We will try to do something. I will keep the plan to myself.”

SunSport revealed yesterday that Marcus Rashford is at the centre of a £60million swap deal involving Napoli striker Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray.

Napoli chief Antonio Conte is keen on the 60-cap England man, who has not played for Amorim in United’s last five games because of his “standards”.

Rash, 27, will miss Sunday’s titanic clash at Liverpool because of “illness”.

Amorim, 39, added: “He has to want it really,  really bad.”

The Portuguese would love to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor  Gyokeres, whose release clause drops from £83m to £63m after this season.

It is claimed Amorim has agreed not to raid his old club until the summer.

But paying the full £83m this month could tempt Sporting to sell.

Amorim is in dire need of goals to rescue United’s season and steer them clear of the drop zone.

He has won just four of his 11 games — including defeats in their last three Prem matches — to make the worst start by a United boss for 93 years.

And Amorim warned against another slow start at Anfield against United’s bitter rivals.

He stressed: “That is a massive problem — you saw it in the first 15 minutes against Newcastle.

“We have to be prepared for a strong start from Liverpool and that is to start strong with the ball.”
