The Toon winger then fell to floor in the penalty area.

Gordon, 23, was then seen with blood coming down his face before medical staff rushed on to the field to treat him.

After a short delay, play was resumed with the Englishman returning to the fray with a piece of tissue stuffed up his nose to clean up further bleeding.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was yet to make any substitutions at the time of the incident.

But Gordon was eventually replaced by Harvey Barnes as the Magpies first sub in the 78th minute.

But fans online had been left more concerned by how Gordon had not been awarded a penalty for the apparent foul by the Spurs star.

Taking to social media, one fan said: “How was Kulusevski not sent off for that on Gordon? He knows exactly what he is doing.”

A second said: “So we had to play with ten men because Kulusevski took Gordon out (and we should’ve had a penalty).”

A third added: “I am baffled how that isn’t a Penalty. Gordon beats him and Kulusevski takes him out.”

Another said: “Accidental or not, Kulusevski doesn’t get a touch on the ball and smashes Gordon. How is that not a penalty?!”

Injury-depleted Tottenham took the lead in the fourth minute of the game through Dominic Solanke as he headed home a Pedro Porro cross.

However, Gordon was on hand to level the scoreline just two minutes later as Spurs turned the ball over before Bruno Guimaraes played in his team-mate to shoot into the bottom corner past Brandon Austin.

Alexander Isak then tapped home the Magpies second goal in the 38th minute.
