THE armourer for the Alec Baldwin movie Rust has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter over the shooting death of a cinematographer during filming.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 26, mistakenly loaded a live round into an imitation Colt .45 revolver, which was handed to the Western’s star Baldwin.

The bullet was fired, killing Halyna Hutchins, 42, and wounding director Joel Souza on set in New Mexico in 2021.

Prosecutors said there were “never-ending safety failures”.

Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty yesterday after a two-week trial.

Her lawyer said the production company tried to cut costs by employing her part-time.

He told jurors: “You’ve got a convenient scapegoat.”

She will be sentenced later.

Baldwin faces a manslaughter trial in July.
