THE Army went to war with hackers who seized control of a regiment’s official Instagram profile.
Troops lost control last week and asked GCHQ’s cyber spies to help.

The mystery hackers wiped military posts and replaced them with messages in Russian and Korean, plus links to firms in India and Brazil.
Sources later claimed the account of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, which includes the Black Watch and had 33,000 followers, was “for sale” on the dark web.
Experts warned suspicious links could lead soldiers and their families who follow the account to download virus or malware attacks on military phones and computers.
Army sources said the attack was being addressed “as a matter of urgency”.
Yesterday, the hacked profile appeared to have been closed down.
An Army Spokesperson said: “We are aware of a breach of the Royal Regiment of Scotland’s social media account on Instagram.
“We take information security extremely seriously and every effort is being made to resolve the issue.
“As the matter is the subject of an ongoing internal investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
