A strong Villa XI had a three-goal lead at half-time after strikes from Emi Buendía, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins.
Donyell Malen continued his fine pre-season form by adding a fourth late on.
Emery made nine changes at half-time in what seemed to be the perfect night for Villa in Walsall.
But disaster struck just after the break when Morgan Rogers was forced off injured.
The England star managed only three minutes before going down in pain.
Reports suggest that Rogers was clutching his left ankle.
He tried to run it off after treatment but could not and was subbed off for 18-year-old Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba.
It left Villa fans worried, with one saying: “Please be just a knock.”

Another added: “Really hoping the injury to Rogers isn’t serious as he is irreplaceable for us.”
Rogers was a key man for the club last term, scoring 14 goals and adding 16 assists in 54 games as they narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification by goal difference.
Villa face Marseille on Saturday and Villarreal on Sunday ahead of their Prem opener against Newcastle on August 16.
