A ‘BEAUTIFUL’ mum-of-one was killed in a horror HGV crash as she drove home from work, an inquest heard.
Chloe Lightfoot died when her Citroen Berlingo van collided with a HGV on the A66 near Barnard Castle, last month.
Emergency services rushed to the A-road, but despite paramedics’ best efforts, Chloe died at the scene.
The mum-of-one was on her way back to her home in Spennymoor when she was involved in the fatal collision.
Yesterday, an inquest into Chloe’s death opened at Crook Coroner’s Court by Senior Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield.
A post-mortem which was held at Newcastle Freeman Hospital gave the cause of death as head and chest injuries.
It heard that Chloe lived in Spennymoor and worked as a sales administrator.
A statement released by her family shortly after her death read: “Chloe was a beautiful young woman, who was a mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, girlfriend, and friend to many.
“To never see her smile again is breaking our hearts.
“We are going to miss her every day.
“Our memories have never been so important to us as we try to come to terms with what has happened.
“We love her so much.
“She will never be forgotten.”
Her family are currently being supported by specialist Durham Constabulary officers.
The road was closed for several hours after the incident while crash investigators worked at the scene.
