MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ruben Amorim was riled with Andre Onana when he demanded a new contract upon his return for pre-season, it’s claimed.

Onana, 29, struggled last season as he committed a litany of blunders between the sticks that cost United, who endured their worst ever Premier League campaign that saw them finishing 15th.

That’s led to Man Utd‘s former No1 falling down the pecking order with Amorim, 40, opting for Altay Bayindir in the first three Premier League matches of the season.

The Cameroon international’s hopes of getting minutes this season have deteriorated further after the £18.5million arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

According to The Athletic, Onana’s position in the Portuguese tactician’s starting line-up was rocked before pre-season even started this past summer.

The same source claims the keeper came back to Carrington wanting a new deal.

The ex-Inter Milan star believed he deserved improved terms after being hit by a 25 per cent cut in wages for non-qualification to the Champions League – a clause in all the players’ contracts.

The former Ajax star’s stance “did not go down well” with Amorim.

Neverthelsss, United have so far opted against selling Onana during the summer transfer window.

When the Cameroonian’s representatives got in touch asking for clarity the club confirmed he was still part of Amorim‘s plans.

But the Red Devils ultimately decided to sign a new goalkeeper following Bayindir’s blunders in the Premier League this season.

Onana has since been linked with a move to Turkey, where the transfer window remains open.

News emerged over the weekend that Manchester United had reached an agreement for Onana to move to Turkish giants Trabzonspor on loan.

A move hinges on Onana’s green light, with the keeper having until the close of the Turkish transfer window on Thursday to decide.
