More than 20 of the players who will do battle at the Ryder Cup are in action this weekend, ramping up the interest in the BMW PGA at Wentworth, and the Procore Championship in California.

Rory McIlroy, fresh off his scintillating Irish Open victory, heads the Wentworth line-up, which includes ten more of his Europe team-mates – Sepp Straka has been allowed a week off as a new dad.

And Scottie Scheffler will be joined by nine more members of the USA team, with the banned Bryson DeChambeau and a jaded Xander Schauffele taking the week off.

Many punters will fancy a McIlroy-Scheffler double, at odds of 6-1 and 9-4 respectively, which would yield over £100 to a £5 stake – if successful.

Not a bad saver, but certainly not a cert, especially as Scheffler will be making his debut in the Procore, aiming to keep sharp for Bethpage rather than add another tick in the win column.

McIlroy, beaten in a play-off here a year ago, might also feel he can take things a bit easier after such an emotional win in front of his own fans. So where will the danger come from?

BMW PGA Championship 2025 betting tips

Tyrrell Hatton seemed to lose interest, as well as losing the plot, once his chance of victory started ebbing away in Ireland last week.

He was a strong fancy for that event, but a closing 77 was a miserable way to finish, and he will want to show something a lot better ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Wentworth is the ideal stage for that, as Hatton won here in 2020, and was joint runner-up on his last visit two years ago – his LIV ban forced him to miss out last year.

His Irish Open flop has pushed him out to 20-1, and he is a good bet to redeem himself at those odds. Justin Rose is the other Ryder Cup star who catches the eye, especially at a best-priced 40-1.

Corey Conners can be backed at the same price, and his ball-striking prowess should make up for the fact that he lacks experience at Wentworth.

The in-from Alex Noren, a previous winner here, also looks tempting at the same price.

Ryan Fox, who landed this title two years ago, looks over-priced at 80-1. And that remark certainly applies to Spaniard Angel Hidalgo, who threatened to join the McIlroy-Joakim Lagergren play-off last week.

He is a whopping 250-1, while 350-1 shot Shaun Norris is another longshot worth a second look.

Procore Championship betting tips

The bookies’ reluctance to take any chances with Scheffler means some of his rivals can be backed at inflated prices, and the player who appeals most is US Open champion JJ Spaun.

Unlike most of his Ryder Cup team-mates he is a regular at the Procore, and he is a much better player than the one who finished T9 here in 2020, and T11 a year later. At 25-1, he looks each way value.

Patrick Cantlay has also played well here in the past, and the hard-to-like American also appeals – as a betting proposition, at least – at around 20-1.

Cameron Young is on a hot streak, with ten successive rounds in  the 60s, and this is a course that should suit him. So another 20-1 quote is worth considering.

Of the non-Ryder Cup contingent, Akshay Bhatia looks competitively priced at 33-1, while the same thing can be said of 100-1 shots Cameron Champ and Patrick Fishburn.

But the standout longshot, has to be David Lipsky, who was runner-up here 12 months ago, and has posted two third placed finishes in his last five outings.

Those credentials make a 250-1 quote appear jaw-dropping!
