THE body of a man in his 80s has been recovered from a lake.
Emergency services attended the scene at Silksworth Sports Complex Lake on Thursday morning.
It followed concerns for a man that was raised to police.
The was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 6.30am today (Thursday), we received a report of concern for a man at the Silksworth Sports Complex in Sunderland.
“Emergency services attended and a man in his 80s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“His next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this sad time.
There are no suspicious circumstances believed to be surrounding the man’s death and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
A post was shared on social media on behalf of local Councillors Phil Tye, Joanne Laverick and Sophie Clinton, which stated: “We can unfortunately confirm that there has been a body recovered this morning from Silksworth Sports Complex Lake.
“We will provide further updates when it is more appropriate.“
