Divers joined the operation while a cordon was in place on Hulme Hall Lane, close to the canal, at around 8pm.

The man is yet to be identified and enquiries are ongoing this morning.

His death is not currently believed to be suspicious, Greater Manchester Police said.

Forensic investigators were seen gathering evidence in bags on Hulme Hall Lane on Sunday night.

Multiple GMP vehicles were seen in the vicinity of the canal, while people were asked to avoid the area.

A GMP spokesperson said: “We were alerted to some possessions on the canal bank and when we have searched the canal, we have found the body of a man – ID still being done, doesn’t look suspicious at this stage.”
