Emergency services launched a major search operation following reports of a person stranded in the River Severn in an area where Harriet regularly walked her dog.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Sadly, a body has been found during searches of the river in Worcester on Thursday afternoon.

“The body has been identified as that of the 24-year-old woman who was reported missing from her home in Diglis on Tuesday (25 February).

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this incredibly sad time.”

Heartfelt tributes have poured in for Harriet on social media following the tragic news.

One person said: “So incredibly sad. Sympathies to her family and friends.”

Another wrote: “So sorry to hear this news about Harriet. I will miss her walking Spike on the playing field and along the river. Condolences to her family at this horrible time.”

A third said: “I am so sad to read this. Rest in peace lovely, kind and gentle Harriet.

“Sending sincere condolences to your family at such a tragic time.”

Harriet was last seen wearing a black gilet, a blue long-sleeved top, blue jeans, a black Casio watch and black wellies.

Her family said residents may recognise her as she often walks their dog around the area – but she was not with the dog when she went missing.

Well-wishers took to Facebook throughout the week speaking of their hope she was found safely.

She was described by those who knew her as “friendly”, “lovely” and “really chatty”.

One woman said: “I see her all of the time walking her dog spike around Diglis.

“She always seemed so pleasant and polite and always said hello.”
