A BODY spotted in a fast-flowing river has sparked a major police search with helicopters deployed.

Emergency crews have rushed to the River Greta in Ingleton, North Yorkshire after cops were alerted by a member of the public on Monday afternoon.

Officers have been searching the River Greta from Ingleton downstream towards Lancashire.

A police helicopter has also been pictured at the scene with police, fire and rescue and ambulance crews all attending the scene.

The member of the public contacted North Yorkshire Police just after 2pm on Monday afternoon.

They believed they saw a body being dragged through the fast-flowing current near the Ingleton viaduct.

The search is ongoing alongside checks for anyone who may be missing from the surrounding area, the force said.
