ALL eyes will be on Nine Ball Pool in October as the Reyes Cup returns – with a twist.

Team Asia won the inaugural title last year, named after pool’s Goat, Efren Reyes.

The Reyes Cup will have an expanded format for its second edition in October

Brit Jayson Shaw hopes to be a wildcard pick

The tournament returns to the 6,000 capacity Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manilla, Phillipines.

But this year the best of the best will feature, as Team Europe becomes Team Rest of the World.

That means world No.1 Fedor Gorst is set feature along with the two other top ranked non-Asian players – which is currently Francisco Sanchez Ruiz of Spain and Germany’s Joshua Filler.

They will team up with two wild cards, with Team Asia following the same format – three top ranked players and two picks.

Hoping to be a wildcard is Brit Jayson Shaw, who is ranked ninth in the world.

He has plenty of team success with Europe in the Mosconi Cup, winning the tournament five times and picking up the MVP award on three of those occasions.

Shaw said of the revamped contest: “They had their moment last year – fair play to them. But trust me, this year will be different.

“Europa, America — whatever flag we wear, we’re going there to win, silence the crowd, and take that trophy.

“We’ve got the players, and we’ve got a point to prove. I’ll be doing everything I can to make the team, and if I get the call,

“I’ll be ready to go there, put on a show, and win.”

Emily Frazer, CEO of Matchroom Multi Sport, added: “If you thought last year was big – this takes things to the next level.

“Europe and the Americas joining forces is a bold move, and it shows just how much the Reyes Cup already means.

“We’re proud to be working with Puyat Sports once again to deliver something truly global, and with the best players in the world on one stage, it’s going to be unmissable.”
