Brentford vs Man City preview
Brentford return to the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday aiming to build on last weekend’s 3-1 win over Manchester United – and potentially claim back-to-back victories over the Manchester clubs.
It’s been a solid start to the season for the Bees, who have picked up seven points from their first six games despite a summer of major changes.
Manager Thomas Frank, Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and club captain Christian Norgaard all departed, with Keith Andrews stepping in as head coach.
There were question marks around the new era, but Brentford have looked competitive – and in striker Igor Thiago, they’ve found an early standout.
The Brazilian has scored five goals from just six shots on target in all competitions, and no player with 10+ shots in the Premier League has a better conversion rate.
Brentford’s home form is also encouraging. They’ve won four of their last six Premier League matches at the Gtech (D1 L1), scoring at least twice in five of those games, including against Chelsea and Manchester United.
A win on Sunday would make Brentford the first team since Tottenham in 1996 to beat both Manchester clubs in consecutive Premier League games.
Manchester City, however, remain a difficult opponent.
Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in their last six across all competitions and have lost just one of their four Premier League visits to Brentford.
City have spent more time in a winning position than any other team in the league this season (55.3%), but they did let the lead slip twice in their 2-2 Champions League draw with Monaco on Wednesday night.
After that game, Erling Haaland admitted: “I’m p***** off. It’s not good enough.” Will that prompt a big reaction this weekend?

I think the Bees can take something from this one – and a draw against Manchester City looks a good shout, priced at 16/5 with William Hill.
Brentford remain strong at home, winning four of their last six Premier League matches at the Gtech and scoring at least twice in five of those games. They should also be the fresher of the two sides, having played just four matches since September 13, compared to City’s six – including a demanding 2-2 draw against Monaco in midweek.
City have also struggled a bit on the road recently, winning just one of their last four away games – and that was against League One side Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.
