Brexit was not a suggestion, it was a clear vote to put Britain first – but Keir Starmer is about to sell us out again

WHEN Labour negotiates, Britain loses.

Keir Starmer walks into negotiations with a white flag at the ready.

He is giving away British territory in the Chagos Islands — and paying for the privilege.

He handed Indian workers a tax break, while hiking taxes for British workers.

And we’ve ended up with worse US tariffs than we had just a few months ago.

Now, on the eve of the UK-EU summit, the Prime Minister is lining up more giveaways to Brussels, just so he can say he has “reset” relations.

The Brexit vote was not a polite suggestion, it was a clear instruction: to put Britain first.

Yet, once again, Labour is about to sell out our country.

It starts with our fishing waters — access to British seas — handed over to the French for no good reason.

This is a fundamental betrayal of Britain’s fishing community, who have worked hard to take back control of our waters after decades of depletion under the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy.

Worse still, this surrender is in return for something we already provide unconditionally to the EU: defence and security.

I’m immensely proud of the role Britain has played supporting our allies to defend their territory from the Russian threat.

Even now, our brave Armed Forces are in Estonia defending Europe’s eastern flank, and we have done more than any other European nation to support Ukraine.

And 24/7, our nuclear deterrent protects not just us, but all the European Nato members — without conditions.

Yet Labour is planning to sell out our fishing industry, pay more money to Brussels, and even compromise our ability to set our own defence policies, just so British companies can bid for work from the EU defence fund. It is madness.

But that’s not all.

I am increasingly worried by Labour’s new support for an EU youth mobility scheme, especially when immigration is already far too high.

I’m not against all youth mobility schemes — we’ve got good ones with comparable countries, such as Australia and Canada.

But this EU version sounds very different.

Keir Starmer has told us for years that he doesn’t care about controlling our borders, so I don’t trust him to stand up to Brussels’ demands

It would see us accepting seemingly unlimited numbers of unemployed 20-somethings from Romania and Bulgaria — or asylum seekers handed a three-year fast-track citizenship in Germany — all coming over here to take UK jobs.

This is not youth mobility. It is free movement by the back door.

Keir Starmer has told us for years that he doesn’t care about controlling our borders, so I don’t trust him to stand up to Brussels’ demands.

Brexit was also about taking back control of our laws.

As Business Secretary, I ended the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice in the UK.

But Labour wants to make us a rule-taker from Brussels once again.

It is gearing up to realign the UK’s food rules with the EU, meaning our farmers will not be allowed to grow drought and disease-resistant crops.

The National Farmers Union agree that, while we want better trade with the EU, it cannot be “at the cost of being able to make our own production choices”.

And alongside allowing Brussels to write our rules, Labour is also talking about fusing its two ideological obsessions — Net Zero and undoing Brexit — by aligning to the EU’s carbon trading mechanism.

This will mean Sun readers, who already struggle with the highest energy costs in Europe, will be saddled with even more expensive bills, just so Keir Starmer can say he “got closer” to Europe.

That isn’t leadership. It is surrender. Just like with Chagos. Just like the two-tier-tax trade deal with India. Just like his tiny tariff deal with the US.

Keir Starmer ought to be improving this deal for Brits being pushed to the back of the passport queue because Eurocrats in Brussels still fume about Brexit. But he’s not

Kemi

The agreement the Conservatives signed with the EU was comprehensive and world-leading — free trade on all goods, no quotas, and protections for our services sector.

Keir Starmer ought to be improving this deal for Brits being pushed to the back of the passport queue because Eurocrats in Brussels still fume about Brexit. But he’s not.

He wants to undo Brexit by stealth. To reverse what millions voted for.

The Prime Minister won’t stand up for Britain. So I will.

I promise you this: If Labour surrenders powers to Brussels, a future Conservative government will take them back.

I will always fight for Britain’s families, workers, and businesses.

I will defend our borders and I will never sell out our country. I will always put Britain first.

And when the time comes — I will make it right.
