The group has become infamous for a slew of attacks on major brands.
It is thought to be made up of around 1,000 UK and US teens and young men.
There have been similar data breaches at the Co-op and Harrods.
Buchanan, from Dundee, was denied bail when he appeared in court in California last Thursday.
The Sun on Sunday has now tracked down photos of the alleged hacker.
One shows him fresh-faced aged around 14.
Another was given to prosecutors by Police Scotland.
They said they believed it to be Buchanan.
Earlier this week Buchanan’s father Robert agreed his son was a “computer whizz” but denied he was involved in Scattered Spider.
He told the Daily Mail: “[He’s been into that] since he was six years old, he has always been on his computers.
