BRITISH film and telly chiefs will receive a boost from more generous tax breaks in a bid to recreate the success of hit flick Barbie.

Studios will be given more tax relief than under the previous system with the video game sector also set to benefit starting tomorrow.

Box Office hit Barbie was largely shot at Leavesden studios in HertfordshireAP

Box Office hit Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, contributed around £80 million to the UK economy and created more than 650 jobs.

The summer smash was largely shot at Leavesden studios, Hertfordshire, where the ‘Barbieland’ sets were constructed.

The flick has been credited with saving cinemas after taking $1billion worldwide.

Vue International reported more than 2,000 of its UK screens were full on its opening weekend.

Animation and children’s TV productions will also be aided under the change of rules which will help productions across the UK.

Treasury Minister Nigel Huddleston said: “We are backing the makers of the next Barbie, Happy Valley and Grand Theft Auto with this new, more generous, tax credit system for British production talent.

“The UK is a world leader in creativity, and we want to ensure that continues well into the future by making it easier for British film, TV and video games to thrive.”
