PM Sir Keir Starmer who attended via videolink, said Vladimir Putin’s war lust was laid bare in attacks last week on British Council and EU delegation buildings in Kyiv.

French President Emmanuel Macron, joined at the summit in his capital by Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelensky, said firm US backing for the peacekeeping force was also in the pipeline.

But Sir Keir warned that Putin could not be trusted as the Russian tyrant continued to thwart ceasefire pleas.

Around 30 Western coalition leaders gathered in Paris or via videolink.

The US is set to do a separate deal but President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff attended yesterday.

A No 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister emphasised that the group had an unbreakable pledge to Ukraine, with President Trump’s backing.

“And it was clear they now needed to go even further to apply pressure on Putin to secure a cessation of hostilities.

“The Prime Minister also welcomed announcements from coalition of the willing partners to supply long-range missiles to Ukraine to further bolster the country’s supplies.”

The Paris summit brought together leaders from Europe, Australia, Japan and Canada but as peace hopes were dashed further by Russia.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Putin would not accept Zelensky’s signature on any peace agreement as Russia considers him to be an illegitimate president.

Lavrov added: “If Putin doesn’t want a ceasefire – and if Trump doesn’t call for a ceasefire – what are the chances of a ceasefire happening?”
