Musk and fellow billionaire businessman Vivek Ramaswamy will head up new cost-cutting office, the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge).

The office was named after the popular Doge meme – the famous Japanese dog Kabosu behind the cryptocurrency Dogecoin.

Elon is known to be a fan of the meme, once changing X (formerly Twitter) logo to the face of Doge.

Trump said in a statement on Tuesday that he will “pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies”.

On Never Mind The Ballots, Mr Griffiths insisted it’s a “fantastic idea” to bring business savvy minds into government.

He argued that Sir Keir Starmer‘s government is splurging too much taxpayer’s cash on waste while failing to deliver any outcomes.

Mr Griffiths said: “Government is the most complex human organization. It’s a vast organization.

“The idea that you can tap into successful experience in other domains and improve the outcomes of government – it’s what we need.”

The Shadow Business Secretary added: “We do need an element of rewiring, we’re spending too much taxpayer’s money and delivering too little outcomes for society.”

Mr Griffiths hit out at the British state for sticking with too many arms length government bodies, which aren’t accountable to parliament.

The Tories want to slash 72,000 civil servant roles and slowly dismantle quangos they don’t think produce results.

Mr Griffiths said: “You’ve got to actually start working on the machine itself.

“It’s very tempting to just pick one particular headline or one particular policy.

“Actually, the word rewiring is quite important.”
