Weakness that let hatred fester
IT was the day a great many British Jews had both dreaded and expected.

Since October 7, 2023 — when 1,200 innocent Jews were massacred in Israel by Hamas invaders — antisemitism has spiralled in Britain.
There were 1,521 incidents — eight a day — in the UK from January to June 2025.
That’s second only to the first six months of 2024, which saw 1,978.
In fact, Jew hate has become normalised in the UK.
It’s the only form of racism that’s somehow allowed by virtue-signallers who will leap to the defence of any minority, except those who happen to be born Jewish.
Not since the 1930s, when the Black Shirts marched on London’s Cable Street, have this community felt so under threat in Britain.
That some should even feel they have to hide their identity entirely is both an appalling indictment of their treatment — and yet no surprise.
Authorities have allowed a toxic mix to flourish
They have had to watch helplessly as antisemites march through our streets.
Jewish patients have been refused treatment by NHS staff.
University campuses have become no-go zones for Jewish students.
In schools, children have had to walk past baying mobs of pro-Palestinian parents while Jewish pupils are lectured in class about Israel’s “wrongs”.
Everywhere they have been forced to increase security at their homes, businesses and places of worship.
Depressing as that is, at the Heaton Park synagogue yesterday it almost certainly saved lives.
A hero security guard was stabbed after tackling the terrorist on the doorstep, while Rabbi Daniel Walker barricaded people indoors until brave armed cops ignored threats to their own safety to end the terror.
We hope the officers involved won’t now be dragged through a lengthy internal disciplinary inquiry for doing their job, as has happened in the past.
But taking out this lone sick fanatic won’t make Jews feel any safer.
Bullied by fundamentalists and terrified of a woke backlash, Britain’s authorities have allowed a toxic mix of far-Left antisemitic activists to flourish.
Yesterday, politicians on all sides were proclaiming solidarity with Jews.
In a televised address, Sir Keir Starmer conceded that “hatred is rising once again” in Britain.
The Prime Minister’s vow to Jews was that he would do “everything in my power to guarantee you the security that you deserve”.
Now he must prove that his Government is sincere.
