CAMERON NORRIE made his own bit of Wimbledon history to reach round three.

The British No3 beat a top 20 seed, Frances Tiafoe, for the first time at SW19 – showing huge grit to down the American.

Tiafoe, the 12th seed, looked to be overpowering Norrie early on, taking the first set and pinning the left-hander back at times.

But Norrie hung in on his favourite court and started to expose Tiafoe’s weaknesses, especially his unreliable serve.

Norrie showed bags of fight to recover from wasted break points and battled back from 0-40 down on his own serve in the crucial second set.

Tiafoe made himself unpopular by causing a seven-minute delay after the third set to go off court – even taking a pair of shoes with him to the bathroom.

But Norrie would not be distracted and broke at the crucial stage of the fourth to clinch the 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-5 win in just shy of three hours.

The Wimbledon semi-finalist three years ago said: “I was really happy when I saw I was on No1 Court, it’s my favourite.

“An amazing atmosphere, we both played at a really high level but I stayed calm and served very well.

“I was really happy with my level, didn’t drop too much.

“My parents and sister are here, my girlfriend as well.

“They’re living here now so it’s not such a tough flight for them.”

Norrie, the first British man to reach round three, will face either Jiri Lehecka or Mattia Bellucci next.

The world No61 has already faced 23rd seed Lehecka twice this year – winning both.

But Lehecka knows his way around a grass court.

The Czech ace downed British No1 Jack Draper in the semis at Queen’s before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
