Emergency services remain at the scene near the River Taff with a rescue helicopter spotted hovering overhead.

RNLI specialists are using boats to check the water by Cardiff‘s Principality Stadium.

Police, fire and ambulance teams have gathered near the Wood Street Bridge.

Student Kaiden Campisi, who rang 999, told the BBC: “He was shouting and screaming for help.

“I chased him to try and keep up with him. I lost sight of him in the river. The water was fast-flowing.”

In a statement, South Wales Police said: “Emergency services are at the scene of an ongoing incident in Cardiff city centre following a report at 7.53am of a person in the River Taff near Wood Street bridge.

“The road between Tudor Street and Wood Street had to be closed in both directions.”

The Wood Street entrance to the city centre shut in both directions earlier today but has since reopened, confirmed cops.

Cardiff Bus also said that services on Wood Bridge have returned to normal.

The ambulance service said it attended but has since been stood down.
