TRAINER Charlie Appleby dealt punters a truly savage blow as he failed to declare an odds-on £1million banker horse for York.

Wise Approach looked ‘a class apart’ when demolishing rivals on his most recent run at Newbury last month.

PAWise Approach was odds-on to claim the Gimcrack at York but trainer Charlie Appleby dealt punters a hammer blow when he failed to declared the £1million horse[/caption]

And he was as short as 1-2 to claim the prestigious £250,000 Gimcrack Stakes on Friday, day three of the track’s Ebor meeting.

William Buick was jocked up on Wise Approach but as the clock ticked towards 10am – the cut-off for decs – Wise Approach was still listed as a non-runner.

Buick was removed a few minutes before the deadline, meaning the writing was on the wall.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for all those who take the gamble ante-post, with odds as big as 8-1 having been available.

And in a double-blow, Aidan O’Brien also failed to declare Neolithic for the big Group 2 for two-year-old colts and geldings.

Backed in all the way from 50s to 7-1, he was one of three, along with Wise Approach and Sea The Power, to not be declared.

Punters were understandably furious at two of the big guns not standing their ground.

One fumed: “Wise Approach not getting declared is brutal for punters.”

Another said: “Some sort of sick joke not declaring Wise Approach, hoping it’s a bug with the website!”

And a third posted on X: “Time to tell the bookies I ‘accidentally’ backed Wise Approach and would like it to be voided.”

All in all it means Ed Walker’s Do Or Do Not, who has strong form behind the awesome Zavateri, is your new 6-4 market leader.
