MANCHESTER UNITED stars have been accused of ignoring Rasmus Hojlund against Sheffield United by Ruud Gullit.

Hojlund is yet to score his first Premier League goal and he lasted little more than an hour against the Blades.

Chelsea legend Gullit feels Hojlund’s pals let him down by not giving him the ball, while they also failed to create goalscoring chances for the striker.

He slammed United players for their greed on the ball, suggesting some stars are too eager to score themselves.

Speaking to Premier League productions, Gullit said: “I still think you have to get your striker on the scoresheet because if he gets on the scoresheet he gets confidence, then also the rest are looking for him all the time.

“They don’t look for him as much and he’s in areas where you can have a look at him.

“You see too many players too eager to score themselves, they’re coming inside, they want to hit the target all the time.

“I played with [Marco] Van Basten, I always thought if I give it to him it’s a goal, if I hit it then it could be a goal. I’d rather give it to him because it’s a definite goal.

“You know strikers, they’re selfish, they need to score goals. If he’s happy in the team that makes a huge difference for the rest.”

Hojlund, 20, has scored three goals in nine games in all competitions since his mega-money summer arrival.

He has shown an eye for goal with a brilliant double in the Champions League against Galatasaray but his return of 11 shots in six Prem games show his team-mates have not provided him with decent enough service.

Ten Hag explained after the match that the Dane was brought off in an effort to keep him “sharp” for future games.

The United boss said: “He plays often whole games, but the idea behind [subbing him off] is we have to manage his minutes.

“Also it is internal competition. We have to keep him sharp.

“We have to swap in games, between games, otherwise we don’t keep the energy, focus and freshness in every game.”
