Delap netted 12 goals in 37 Premier League matches as the Tractor Boys headed back to the second tier.

The former Manchester City ace had a £30million relegation release clause written into his contract.

Chelsea have now agreed personal terms with Delap, according to The Athletic.

The England under-21 striker will sign at Stamford Bridge until 2031.

He selected a move to Chelsea ahead of Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton.

Delap is set to undergo a medical at Chelsea’s Cobham base later today.

The son of Stoke City cult hero Rory Delap, Liam came through the youth setup at Derby County.

He joined City in 2019 but was sent out on loan to Stoke, Preston North End and Hull City.

After just six appearances under Pep Guardiola, Delap headed to Portman Road last summer in a £15m deal.

His powerful running and lethal finishing in the top flight won him a host of admirers.

But Chelsea have moved fastest as they look for an alternative to the inconsistent Nicolas Jackson.

Boss Enzo Maresca knows the striker from his time at City’s academy.

The Blues are eager for Delap to feature in the upcoming Club World Cup, which begins on June 14.

Delap is however eager to play under Lee Carsley in the upcoming Under-21 Euros in Slovakia.
