Chelsea vs Liverpool preview
Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge aiming to avoid a third straight defeat for the first time since spring 2023.
After a run of seven consecutive wins in all competitions, Arne Slot’s side have now suffered back-to-back losses for just the second time.
The Reds were beaten at Selhurst Park last weekend before falling 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League at RAMS Park.
To compound their problems, goalkeeper Alisson limped off injured in the second half, while £116million signing Florian Wirtz was fairly anonymous once again.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher questioned the team’s recent performances, likening them to a basketball team who lack structure.
And that’s not the ideal backdrop heading into a tricky trip to west London. Liverpool have failed to win any of their last four Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge (D3, L1), including a 3-1 defeat back in May.
They’ve also lost their last three matches in the capital – their worst run in London since the 2009–10 season.
However, they aren’t exactly facing a Chelsea side in top form.
The Blues had a rough September, losing three times and only managing slender wins against League One side Lincoln City and Benfica in midweek.
That inconsistency has piled pressure on manager Enzo Maresca, despite his recent successes in the Conference League and Club World Cup.
Chelsea have often been the architects of their own downfall. They’ve lost three Premier League matches in 2025 after scoring first and have also been reduced to ten men in three of their last four outings across all competitions.

Score draw
A score draw looks a likely outcome when Chelsea host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Saturday – available at 10/3 with William Hill.
Both sides have shown their attacking prowess this season. Only Manchester City and Arsenal have scored more goals in the Premier League so far, and both Chelsea and Liverpool sit comfortably in the top seven for expected goals (xG) after six rounds of fixtures.
Defensively, however, there are question marks. Liverpool have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five outings, while Chelsea have just one shutout in their last six – conceding 11 goals in that time.
Fatigue could also play a role. With six matches in under three weeks, energy levels will be tested, and both managers will be desperate to avoid defeat.
It’s also worth noting that eight of the last 11 meetings between these sides have ended even after 90 minutes, while the absences of Cole Palmer, Trevoh Chalobah, Alisson and Hugo Ekitike will also cause disruption for both sides.

History may be set to repeat itself, with Ibrahima Konate looking like a strong contender to end up in the referee’s notebook once again.
The Liverpool centre-back has faced criticism in recent weeks, and a shaky performance against Galatasaray did little to restore confidence.
Konate has committed six fouls in the Premier League this season – a tally bettered only by out-of-position midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai among Liverpool players. More tellingly, no Reds player has received more yellow cards in the league so far (2).
His disciplinary record against Chelsea also raises eyebrows: he’s picked up four yellow cards in just nine appearances against the Blues – twice as many as he has against any other opponent.
