Chelsea vs West Ham preview
East London meets west London as Premier League rivals Chelsea and West Ham United do battle at Stamford Bridge on Monday.
Enzo Maresca’s side had briefly been considered the closest challengers to Liverpool for the Premier League title.
But they’ve since dropped down to sixth position after disappointing draws against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, followed by last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Manchester City.
Having taken just five points from a possible 15 on offer over the last five league matches (15th in the form table), the Blues will be desperate to return to winning ways and return to the Champions League qualification spots.
And West Ham might just be the ideal opposition.
Chelsea have won their last two Premier League meetings with West Ham by an aggregate score of 8-0, while the visitors have won just one of their last 18 top-flight away games against Stamford Bridge.
Graham Potter also returns for the first time in the opposition dugout since his Chelsea departure in April 2023.
And that – unfortunately for West Ham – isn’t a good omen either.
Eight former Chelsea managers have taken charge against the Blues at Stamford Bridge after leaving the club in the Premier League and none have won across those 22 games (D8 L14).
The Hammers head into the London derby with just one win to their name in the last six matches (D1, L4) in all competitions.
They did, however, put in a good display to draw with Aston Villa last time out and could possibly welcome back talisman Jarrod Bowen, who’s been sidelined since December.
“He’s obviously got a few more days to train, but it’s looking hopeful,” Potter said ahead of this one.
“He’s had more time, with the nature of the injury. He’s trained the last two days, and we’ve still got some more training sessions to go so, as I said, we’re hopeful for him.”
