A CHILD is among four injured after a car ploughed into pedestrians – with a driver arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
One woman is said to have potentially life-threatening injuries following the horror events in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, this afternoon.
The male driver, 49, who is also suspected of assault, has been detained in hospital.
Emergency services raced to two locations, Woodgate Avenue and Whitworth Road, at around 2.30pm, after reports of a car having collided with several pedestrians.
Three people, including a child, were rushed to hospital from Woodgate Avenue with “serious injuries”, while the more severely injured woman was airlifted from Whitworth Road.
The incident is not being treated as terrorism related, according to cops.
A scene remains in place while enquiries continue.
In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable John Webster of Greater Manchester Police said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Rochdale today. Our officers are supporting the victims and their families at this time.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident with one lone offender arrested and in hospital.
“Additional resources will remain deployed to the local area, please speak to officers if you have any concerns.
“We are working tirelessly to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of our community.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our efforts. We will provide updates as more details become available.”
