The 144-time Denmark international had been linked with a switch to Hollywood-owned Wrexham in the Championship earlier in the window.

Wrexham launched an audacious effort to sign the veteran and proposed a two-year plan to reach the Premier League, but Eriksen politely turned down the move in favour of staying in the top flight this

Now Mail Online has revealed that he could be given that opportunity by newly promoted side Burnley.

Scott Parker‘s team are said to be keen on making a deal work as they try and build a squad capable of staying afloat.

Eriksen has had interest from a number of clubs in Turkey, the US and Saudi Arabia, but is keen to stay in Western Europe if possible.

His representative Martin Schoots told the Mail last month: “Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe.

“There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.”

Eriksen managed 31 Premier League appearances last season, scoring once and registering two assists.

Burnley have already added a fresh face to their midfield this week.

Rising star Lesley Ugochukwu has joined from Chelsea in a deal worth in excess of £20million.

Speaking on joining the Clarets on a five-year deal, the 21-year-old said: “It’s a great feeling to sign for Burnley.

“As soon as I was made aware of the club’s interest in signing me, I was keen to hear more about the project.

“I spoke to the manager and Maxime [Esteve] – they were both so passionate about the club and the direction it’s heading in.

“It feels like this is the perfect move for me at this stage of my career with the ambition the club is showing.”
