Browning attended CrossPointe Church in Wayne, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, with his mother a few times in the past year before his attack there on Sunday.

One person, a security guard, was injured after Browning shot him in the leg during the terrifying event, but is in stable condition.

The gunman started his rampage by driving his truck into the church building at 11:06 am, police said.

A Sunday service had begun there just minutes earlier at 10:45 am.

Browning got out of the car and began shooting at the church and its security guard with an AR-15 rifle, according to CrossPointe Community Church Senior Pastor Bobby Kelly Jr.

A churchgoer arriving at service saw the suspect shooting and ran him over with their truck, Kelly said.

The church’s security guard then fatally shot Browning.

Cops confirmed the suspected gunman was dead by the time they arrived on the scene.

Locals have been told to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

“The Wayne Police Department responded to an active shooter at Crosspointe Church in Wayne this morning,” the City of Wayne, Michigan Police Department wrote on Facebook.

“Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect.

“One victim was shot in the leg. Please avoid the area.

“Officers are still actively investigating.”

HORRIFYING FOOTAGE

Shocking footage from the live stream of the service shows the moment churchgoers, including several children, are told to run for cover.

People can be heard shouting as those in their seats jumped up, grabbing their children and loved ones to get to safety.

Some ducked behind their seats before being told to get to the back of the church.

“Everybody to the back, please, everybody come to the back. Come to the back,” a woman could be heard shouting.

At one point, a loud noise can be heard and those in the church scatter.

‘SAVED THE DAY’

In response to the police statement, locals praised the heroic security guard who took out the active shooter, claiming they heard “at least 100 rounds of gunfire.”

“That security guard saved the day,” local Ethan Wagemann wrote in the comments.

“I heard it all sounded like it was right outside. Sounded like at least 100 rounds of machine gun fire.

“After I heard what sounded maybe 3 handgun shots there was no more machine gun fire.”

“Prayers to the Security Guard. He should get a Key to the City for his bravery and for possibly saving countless other lives,” another said.

A third added that the police response “was phenomenal”.

Westland City Councilwoman Melissa Sampey thanked officers assisting in the investigation and urged people to “pray for all involved”.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to the Wayne Police Department for updates.

Deputy Chief Carter confirmed that multiple agencies are on scene.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed on X that the agency’s “leadership and support teams are on the ground at the scene”.
