Classic James Bond books changed after fears 007 comes across as a ‘sex offender’

A JAMES Bond audiobook narrator has admitted changing Ian Fleming’s novel because it makes 007 sound like a creepy sex offender.

Martin Jarvis, 82, was given the job of recording a new audio version of Casino Royale.

Asked whether he needed to “tweak” the 1953 original, Mr Jarvis said: “Oh goodness yes.

“Bond’s attitude to women in some of those novels is slightly creepy.

“There are one or two when, not to put too fine a point on it, he’s virtually raping women.”

Mr Jarvis, also a distinguished radio and TV actor, added: “So I have to slice away some of the things he says.”

Asked if a woman could be 007, he said: “To say it has to be a man feels wrong.

“On the other hand, I’d be sorry to lose the Bondness of Bond.”

In 25 Bond films, 007 had sex with 58 women.
