The threatening forward came out for the warm-up in East London, only to head down the tunnel early.

He was supposed to start on the right-hand side for the Blues, but will now be replaced in the starting XI.

Enzo Maresca told Sky Sports that Cole Palmer ‘felt something’ in warm-up. It’s precautionary and they didn’t want to risk him.

Palmer of course needs to be protected, as Chelsea’s star man and with fellow key player Levi Colwill already on the injury table at Cobham, who has already sustained an ACL injury.

Cole Palmer came out and sat on the bench in a puffer jacket, looking sunken and defeated as his teammates came out onto the pitch.

Those teammates included the man who replaced him in the starting XI, young Brazilian, Estevao.

Cole Palmer has contributed to three goals in his last three appearances against West Ham.

He scored against them in a 5-0 thrashing in the 23/24 season, before adding a goal here last season in a 3-0 victory, and an assist in a 2-1 win against the Hammers at Stamford Bridge.
