COPS have launched an urgent hunt for a “man in a puffer jacket” after the attempted murder of a woman at a Tube station.

The British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Leicester Square station in London shortly after 3.30pm on November 6.

The force says it was called to reports of a man attempting to push a woman in front of an incoming train.

The victim was waiting on the platform at the London Underground station when she saw the suspect arguing with an elderly man.

He then walked over, grabbed her arm and began dragging her.

She briefly managed to escape, BTP said.

As the train approached, the suspect then grabbed the victim’s arm again and began pushing her towards the tracks.

Two have-a-go heroes intervened and pulled her away from him.

The suspect is then reported to have boarded the train.

An attempted murder investigation is now underway and detectives are appealing for witnesses.

A spokesperson for BTP said: “The suspect is described as a male believed to be in his late 20s with a muscular build, wearing a beige scarf over his head and a short puffer jacket.

“If you were one of the people who intervened, or someone who witnessed the incident, please contact British Transport Police as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 455 of 06/11/2023.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
