COPS searching for a missing man have found a body in a river near a football stadium in a heartbreaking discovery.
A body has been found for Darren Orme in a stretch of the river Douglas near Stadium Way in Wigan, near Wigan Football Club’s ground.
Darren, who was big Wigan FC fan, went missing on March 5 just before 9pm near Standish.
Formal identification has not yet taken place but police said the man’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
The Wigan FC fan’s disappearance prompted a widespread search for his whereabouts, while police launched a major investigation across the area.
Wigan Athletic manager, Ryan Lowe, even took time out of a press conference to help with the search, reports Manchester Evening News.
He said: “We’re thinking of Darren’s family, and we’re really behind the campaign to get him home safe and sound. Hopefully he can get back to the Brick very soon to watch his beloved Wigan.”
In a post on X today, Wigan and Leigh Police said: “Officers searching for missing Darren Orme have sadly located a body in the Stadium Way area of Wigan.
“While formal identification has not yet taken place, Darren’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.”
