SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY owner Dejphon Chansiri is set to make German coach Danny Rohl his new boss at the second time of asking.

Rohl, 34, was interviewed for the post in the summer but was overlooked as the Owls plumped for Xisco Munoz.

The former Southampton assistant and Bayern Munich coach is now back in talks with the Championship club after Munoz was axed on Wednesday.

Chansiri was impressed by Rohl when they first spoke and the German is keen to strike out on his own having worked under Ralf Hasenhuttl.

Rohl was first employed as a coach by RB Leipzig after he graduated from the University of Leipzig with a degree in sports science.

He progressed through the club’s youth ranks and worked under a number of different managers, including former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.

After a spell at Southampton alongside Hasenhuttl, he returned to Germany in 2019 to become Hansi Flick’s assistant coach at Bayern Munich.

Rohl then followed Flick to work with him for the Germany national team.

But he, along with Flick and his fellow assistant Marcus Song, was sacked last month following a 4-1 defeat to Japan.

Rohl could now be set for a new start at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls sacked Munoz earlier this week, just 10 games into the season.

Sheffield Wednesday currently sit rock bottom of the Championship table with just three points.

They are yet to get a win on the board this season.
