A CROSSBOW stalker was shot dead by police after showing “threatening behaviour” outside a home he was banned from, an inquest heard.

Bryce Hodgson, 30, was gunned down as he forced his way into the house in Rotherhithe, South East London, on January 30.

An inquest into his death heard how he was armed with a crossbow and “other weapons” – including a knife, sword and hatchet.

Senior Coroner Dr Julian Morris said: “He had entered Bywater Place armed with various weapons, including a crossbow.

Police were called to the scene and, when he exhibited some threatening behaviour, armed response units were called and subsequently shots were fired.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A provisional post mortem revealed Hodgson died from gunshot wounds to his neck and chest.

The inquest was adjourned while the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) carries out an investigation.

Harriet Griffiths, lead investigator on the case, said: “Police units attended but were unable to detain him and they were shortly followed by their firearms colleagues, who, as you know, fired shots.”

The dramatic moment Hodgson was brought down in Bywater Place was caught on camera after he managed to get inside the property.

Armed police swooped on the residential street after horrified neighbours raised the alarm.

Officers later revealed Hodgson, who was wearing body armour, knew at least one person who lived in the home.

He had previously been slapped with a five-year restraining order last year after stalking a 31-year-old woman.

Hodgson pleaded guilty to causing serious alarm and distress by entering her bedroom without consent, sending messages demanding she open her door and describing vivid sexual fantasies between January 1 and April 29 last year.

The restraining order banned him from contacting the victim or entering the road where she lives.

Neighbours described the cannabis user as a “troubled and haunted individual” who stressed about losing his hair prematurely.

Hodgson, from Sheffield, was single and working in IT at the time of his death.

The IOPC launched the investigation after the shooting, which is standard practice in such circumstances.
