He is believed to have suffered a heart attack during the service for his son David Beilicki, who sadly died on July 31.
Emergency crews rushed to the church before taking the dad-of-seven to a nearby hospital.
Norman was joined in the ambulance by his sister while the rest of the family carried on with David’s funeral.
His daughter, Chantelle Beilicki, explained that he had not previously suffered with any heart conditions.
The mum-of-four believes her dad died of a “broken heart” following the death of his son.
She told TeesideLive: “It has been so traumatic. You wouldn’t ever think of anything like this happening, you couldn’t write it.
“When we got into the chapel and sat down, I looked around and said ‘where’s my dad?’
“I think he must have died from a broken heart. I think seeing all the family together like that must have been too much.”
According to his daughter, Norman was a keen boxer and often trained others in the sport.
Speaking on the “popular and well-liked” granddad, she said: “He was my dad and I idolised him.”
Chantelle was in the church when she was informed her father had collapsed outside.
She was with her family when they received the tragic news over the phone that Norman had passed.
And the 42-year-old likened the family’s double tragedy to something taken straight out of a Hollywood film plot.
David, who struggled with long-term drug addiction, was discovered dead on his sofa by a shocked family member.
His tragic death came exactly a decade after he attended a memorial service for his stillborn twin sons Karson and Deacon.
He shared a home with Chantelle and the rest of her family in Overdale Road, Park End.
An investigation is currently ongoing into the cause of David’s death.
Chantelle continued: “My kids are devastated. The whole place just isn’t the same without him.”
“He had a heart as big as the ocean. He is so missed.”
She went on to praise the staff at Rose Funerals for being “patient” and “Caring” during the traumatic events.
She added: “They were fantastic throughout the traumatic event.
“Our family could not have got through that day without them.
“They went through every emotion with us, all the time they were working to save my dad although they were traumatised too”
A funeral service for Norman will be held on September 18.
