United have been up for sale for almost a year, with the Glazers looking to cash in to the tune of £6billion.

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the two frontrunners should United’s current owners decide to sell up.

But neither are willing to meet the Glazers’ price tag, with Qatari royal Sheikh Jassim hoping to do a deal at £5bn and Ratcliffe ready to become a minority investor.

It means United fans are still in limbo over the club’s future.

Things have not been helped by a dismal start to the new season.

Erik ten Hag has already lost six games in all competitions and almost made it seven on Saturday until Scott McTominay hit a late double against Brentford.

However, Red Devils legend Beckham gave supporters a much-needed boost by delivering his thoughts on the sale process.

The Inter Miami owner admitted he had a preferred choice to replace the Glazers, with many fans interpreting that as backing for Sheikh Jassim’s full takeover.

Speaking at the F1 Sprint Race in Qatar on Saturday, Becks also gave a cheeky smile as he talked to Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle.

He said: “We are one of the, if not the biggest club in the world. We want stability.

“We all have our favourites of who we feel needs to run the club and look after the club to take it back to where it belongs.

“In our eyes, in the fans eyes, we are number one. We want to be back at the top and I believe I know the right people to do that so we’ll see!”

It sent United fans into overdrive, with one saying: “Good days ahead.”

Another declared: “We are so back.”

One noted: “He knows it’s the Qatar team.”

Another added: “Love that from Beckham, talking as a fan who loves the club rather than a pundit or former player.”
