LUKE HUMPHRIES bizarrely stooped to sip water from his glass during his match against Connor Scutt.

The former world champion, 30, was in action at the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen, Germany.

Cool Hand Luke comfortably dispatched of Scutt 6-1 on Saturday.

In addition to his good play, Humphries‘ strange drinking technique caught fans’ eyes.

During the contest, the Berkshire ace seemed determined not to use his hands while sipping his water, bending down to take a drink.

Quizzed about the incident after his win, Humphries said: “Did that get shown on camera? It was… my hands were so sweaty, and I didn’t want to touch the glass because it was so, like…”

The world No1 added: “There was so much moisture that I was like, if I pick it up with my hands, it might make…

“Look, it’s very hot out here. It’s really, really tough. It’s like being abroad when you’re on holiday.

“But you have to make the best of a bad situation, and I thought if I don’t touch the glass, I won’t add that moisture to my hands, and it worked!

“I didn’t know you were going to catch it on camera. I was hoping I did it discreetly, but yeah, I was just trying to help myself a bit.”

Responding to Humphries’ gesture, one fan wrote on X: “Could just use his left hand to pick op the glass.”

While a second joked: “Gonna have to change his nickname to “Wet hand” Luke now.”

Humphries was back in action on Sunday.

Cool Hand Luke was edged 6-5 by Michael Smith.
