DISGRACED Post Office boss Paula Vennells has refused to answer questions after she was seen for the first time since the Horizon drama.

Dressed in a helmet and hi-vis jacket, Vennells cycled away from a journalist asking about reported claims she covered up the Post Office scandal.

Vennells faces fresh allegations she knew about a covert Post Office team that could change sub-postmasters’ accounts remotely.

Faulty Horizon accounting software made it appear as if money was missing from Post Office branches around the UK.

The glitch led to the wrongful prosecution of hundreds of sub-postmasters, many of whom have been denied compensation.

Vennells, who ran the Post Office while it denied there was a problem with Horizon, told MPs in 2015 that it could not be accessed remotely.

But a secret recording from 2013 captures Post Office lawyer Susan Crichton claiming Vennells knew remote access was possible.

In the recording, Crichton claims Vennells knew about a “covert operations team” which could tweak branches’ account balance.

Channel 4, which obtained the recording, doorstepped Vennells as she was out for a bike ride.

But Vennells refused to answer questions about whether she lied to MPs.

It comes after Vennells handed back her CBE “with immediate effect” in January amid public fury over the Horizon IT scandal.

More than 1.2million signed a petition demanding she hand back the gong after an ITV drama put a spotlight on the scandal.
