Aspinall, 32, got his hands on interim UFC gold in November 2023 with a blistering 69-second KO of Sergei Pavlovich in the wake of Jones suffering a pectoral injury.
The Wigan warrior this week became the longest-reigning interim champion in UFC history, surpassing Renan Barao’s 534-day reign as interim men’s bantamweight champion.
And scores of MMA fans have called on UFC supremo White to relieve Jones of his title and promote Aspinall to undisputed heavyweight champion.
One wrote on X: “Strip Jon Jones.”
Another said: “Take the f***ing belt away from Jon Jones!!!
“[The] guy is not the f***ing heavyweight champ.”
And another said: “Jon Jones has become a detriment to the sport in his later years.”
One remarked: “This is f***ing embarrassing, get your s**t together, Dana White.”
Another chimed in: “It’s disgusting how Tom Aspinall got robbed of an undisputed heavyweight title reign.”
The calls for White to strip Jones come just days after the veteran promoter insisted the former pound-for-pound king’s proposed clash with Aspinall is still on.
Commenting on since-retracted claims the fight has been ‘agreed’, White said last weekend: “Everything you hear is bulls**t until we say it.”
He added: “I’ve said it many times, that’s the fight we want to make this year, [I’m] still super confident [it happens].”
“”I’ve said since Day One that this would be the biggest heavyweight fight in the history of the company and the history of the sport.
“This will be a big one.”
Former long-reigning light-heavyweight king Jones hasn’t fought since stopping Stipe Miocic with a sensational spinning back kick at UFC 309 last November.
Aspinall, meanwhile, has been on the sidelines since decimating Curtis Blaydes in just 60 seconds in their UFC 304 rematch last July.
