STEPHEN BUNTING has slammed vile trolls after he was sent a barrage of abuse after his World Grand Prix exit.

The Bullet was dumped out of the tournament by Danny Noppert in the quarter finals, as he played through a nasty back injury.

Bunting, 40, was well beaten 3-1 in Leicester by Noppert, who will now face Gary Anderson in the next round.

Noppert put in a solid performance and impressed in key moments with his accuracy.

The Liverpool thrower was then hit by sick trolling online, which he shared on Facebook.

Some of the comments included trolls saying “just die motherf***er” and “f***ing fat clown”.

Bunting has now hit out at the vile comments, saying: “Losing doesn’t deserve this much abuse. So sad to see.”

Bunting has also revealed that his efforts against Noppert were hindered by a back problem.

This affected his ability to score and rhythm at the oche.

Bunting tried to stretch out the issue but insisted that doing so only exacerbated the issue.

He told fans about the agonising issue on social media after his exit from the tournament.

He wrote: “Back so sore. Couldn’t force my darts up. Tried stretching and just made it worse.

“How I won so many legs I don’t know.

“The crowd knew I was in pain.

“Pity the social media full of negativity. Well done to Danny you played well.”

He did receive some support from fans who responded in the comment section.

One posted: “Tough to take for Bunting. Wishing him a speedy recovery.”

A second commented: “Come back stronger champ, and hopefully with a stronger back.”

A third added: “I could see you were really struggling. Onwards and upwards for the next tournament.”

The problem has arisen since Bunting completed a rare feat that only Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen have achieved.

He has enjoyed a stunning 2025 in which he became the third player to win two Players Championships, two European Tour titles, and two World Series of Darts events.
