RORY MCILROY makes his post-Ryder Cup return in the unlikely surroundings of the Delhi Golf Club, as he heads the field for this week’s inaugural DP World India Championship.

McIlroy will be joined by three of his team-mates from last month’s epic triumph at Bethpage Black – Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland – while USA team members Brian Harman and Ben Griffin have also made the trip.

It is a pretty stellar line-up for a $4million event, and you get the feeling that the game’s superstars will feast on birdies at a course measuring under 7,000 yards.

McIlroy is, predictably, a short-priced favourite, at around 9.2. But the world No 2 often takes a bit of time to shake off the rust after taking a break.

And I have a feeling that Ben Griffin, a 10-1 shot on most lists, is the player who could provide us with a tasty Indian takeaway…

DP World India Championship 2025 betting tips

The American seemed seriously under-employed at Bethpage, given the way his team-mates were floundering under the European onslaught.

Griffin played just once before the singles, when he and Bryson DeChambeau were a bit unlucky to be edged out on the final green by Fleetwood and Justin Rose in their fourball clash.

He seemed determined to make a point as he came out on top in a ding-dong battle with Rasmus Hojgaard on the final day.

And he would love to reinforce the feeling he should have played more at Bethpage by toppling Europe’s finest this week.

Fleetwood’s 6-1 quote looks a bit skinny, and the out-of-form Lowry makes little appeal at 18-1. So Hovland – another 10-1 shot – could prove the pick of the European Ryder Cup quartet.

Michael Kim, who showed real grit to win the French Open a few weeks ago, is another American worth following, especially at 25-1.

Fast-improving Spaniard Angel Ayora’s fine effort to finish in the top ten in his home Open last week has seen his odds clipped to around 33-1. But even at that price he could be worth an each-way interest.

With no course form to go on, recent form is our best guide this week – and French ace Ugo Coussaud did even better in Spain, claiming a share of fifth despite a sloppy second round 73.

He is the pick of the outsiders at 66-1, while Grant Forrest has shown signs of the form that earned him the Nexo Championship in August with a couple of decent performances in his last two starts.

He can also be backed at 66-1, while Joel Girbach – third in Spain after playing his way into the final group – is a real eye-catcher at 100-1.

And if you want even fancier odds, Finland’s Tapio Pulkkanen has shown enough glimpses of his best form recently to warrant a small interest at 200-1.
