THIS is the moment rescue teams battled through brutal -2C blizzard conditions to rescue a climber in the Scottish Highlands.

The dramatic clip, shared on social media, shows mercy crews stretchering the hiker to safety after they became separated from a group almost 4,000 feet up in the Cairngorms.

The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team were scrambled after the alarm was raised around 5:30pm yesterday amid horrendous conditions.

Brave rescuers discovered the climber suffering from exhaustion and mild hypothermia in a boulder field on the mountain’s Coire an t-Sneachda.

They were carried to an off-road vehicle by the 17-strong crew before returning to base around 10:30pm.

Emergency crews used blizzard blankets and heat pads to keep the climber warm.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Cairngorm MRT wrote: “Full team call out last night at 17.30 for a climber who had become separate from their party.

“The climber was located in the boulder field of Coire an t-Sneachda very cold and suffering from exhaustion.

“Unable to walk due to exhaustion and after some rewarming we packaged the climber into our stretcher using blizzard blankets and heat pads and carried them out to our Can-Am that was waiting in Coire Cas. Everyone safe and back at base 22.30.”

Temperatures plummeted in the Cairngorms throughout December as the country experienced a brutal cold snap.

Earlier this month, a stricken climber who was caught up in an avalanche was rescued during a terrifying seven-hour ordeal.

Emergency teams were scrambled after the man sustained a lower leg injury.

Three hillwalkers were also rescued in “very challenging” conditions off Ben Nevis.
