ONE lucky punter turned pocket change into a small fortune over the bank holiday weekend – landing nearly £12,000 from a 5p Goliath bet, despite selecting three losers!
The ambitious £12.35 bet didn’t start well, with Oh Yes You Do (12/1) finishing fourth in Goodwood’s opener on Saturday.
But things quickly turned around.
Trawlerman winning at York’s Ebor FestivalGETTY
Winners came flying in – Just Keep Flying (12/1) and Queen All Star (13/2) at Goodwood, Tiva (6/1) at Newmarket, Grey Skies (11/1) at Cartmel, and Arabian Crown (9/2) at Windsor.
That flurry more than made up for late slips from Bintjeddah (11/4) and Launceston (9/2) in the final two at Windsor.
At the original prices, the punter stood to collect £4,019.90. But thanks to BOG, which paid out on bigger SPs – including Grey Skies doubling in price – the final return rocketed to £11,777.95.
This follows a bruising day for the bookies on Friday, as another Hill customer smashed them for £14,758.83 at York’s Ebor Festival – landing a four-fold on Trawlerman (8/11), Lifeplan (9/2), Asfoora (8/1) and Cape Flora (5/1) from a £20 stake.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “We’ve really had to duck for cover recently with two big multiples landing on consecutive days. These are two smashing bets, and we have to congratulate both racing punters who have found a fistful of winners and come away with more than a fistful of cash.
“Landing a Goliath of big-priced winners is no mean feat and Saturday’s winning punter was rewarded by a significant winnings hike thanks to Best Odds Guaranteed.
“With several of their winners going off at bigger SPs than their taken prices, they pocketed an extra £7,758.05 to take their total winnings to close to £12k.
“To turn £20 into the best part of £15k is brilliant betting too, especially on such a competitive day of racing at York, and we’re sure both punters had a bank holiday weekend to remember.”
