COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard has failed to be chosen as a Labour candidate for the next general election.
The 61-year-old was defeated by musician Tom Gray for the Brighton Pavilion nomination — the second time her political ambitions have been knocked back.

Ms Izzard, who identifies as a gender-fluid trans woman called Suzy but doesn’t mind still being known as Eddie, failed to be selected as Labour’s candidate in Sheffield Central last December.
Mr Gray, 46, of Mercury Prize-winning rock band Gomez, wrote: “Delighted and humbled to be selected.”
“Thanks so much to everyone who helped in the campaign and thanks to Eddie, Lucy and Birgit for showing such solidarity and integrity on the trail.”
Last week Eddie claimed “representing Brighton would be the most profound” experience in her life.
The actor also said that she had been a “voice for trans people” for 40 years – after adopting female “she/her” pronouns in 2020.
She has previously said she would keep going until she became an MP.
The current Brighton Pavilion MP is former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas – who is standing down at the next general election having held the coastal seat since 2010.
Labour is hoping to take back control of the seat after winning Brighton Council in May’s local elections.
